About Fenix

Fenix is Rotterdam’s new museum about migration. Artists, photographers, chefs and other creative makers share stories here that cross borders – about love and farewell, coming home and feeling at home, identity and the search for happiness. In this historic place of departure and arrival we show that migration is timeless and deeply personal.

About the role

As Education Project Lead, you guide the development and professionalisation of Fenix’s education programme. You set up clear processes and build a network with schools and social partners. You translate Fenix’s mission into programmes that move, inspire, and are accessible to everyone. One key aim: train as many teachers as possible so they can visit the museum independently with their classes. The team also focuses on NT2 (Dutch as a second language) programmes for NT2 students. You will be the functional lead for two education staff members.

In 2026 this new project team reports directly to the General Director, with the aim to become part of the Exhibitions & Collection team within one to two years.

What you’ll do

  • Develop, coordinate, and safeguard the education programme and its processes;
  • Build long-term relationships with schools, teachers, and social organisations, with a focus on Rotterdam;
  • Contribute to teaching materials for pupils (ages 10–14) and NT2 students so they can visit Fenix independently;
  • Initiate collaborations with cultural and social partners;
  • Coordinate delivery of educational activities and ensure content and logistics align;
  • Organise and lead “Teach the Teacher” sessions;
  • Translate experience, evaluations, and results into improvements to the programme.

Who you are

  • Proven experience with education projects in the cultural or social sector;
  • Strong organiser; you like structure and planning;
  • Skilled at relationship management;
  • Able to connect content and process; you enjoy working across disciplines;
  • Affinity with themes such as migration, language, and identity;
  • A natural connector who builds and maintains partnerships;
  • Curious, proactive, and with a strong sense of responsibility;
  • Strong communication skills in Dutch and English. Do you speak other languages too? Fantastic!

Competencies

  • Strategic and analytical thinking;
  • Strong planning, organising, and prioritising;
  • Communicative and relationship–driven;
  • Coaching leadership style;
  • Results–oriented and connecting;
  • Creative in developing educational concepts.

What Fenix offers

  • The chance to build and shape education at Fenix;
  • A meaningful role in an international, cultural, and social environment;
  • An inspiring team working on programmes with impact;
  • Salary between €4,500 and €5,100 gross per month (based on 40 hours), depending on experience;
  • Good secondary benefits, including pension and travel allowance;
  • Training and development opportunities;
  • A healthy vegetarian lunch at the office;
  • An extra day off for a personal or cultural celebration;
  • Unlimited access to professional mental-wellbeing support via OpenUp.

Fenix is building a team that reflects Rotterdam’s cultural diversity. Our vacancies are open to everyone—including those with less experience in the cultural sector who bring strong motivation.
