Book Presentation: Gids in verwondering by Abdelkader Benali
Celebrating the fiftieth birthday of Abdelkader Benali
Writer Abdelkader Benali presents his new book Gids in verwondering at Plein – a personal and literary work in which he looks back on thirty years of writing and on a society that has changed profoundly in that time.
During the evening, Benali will speak with editor Tijn Boon (De Meent Publishers) about the themes in his book. Alderman Faouzi Achbar will receive the first copy. The evening opens with a welcome by publisher Vijay Gangadin. Afterwards, there will be time for a book signing and a drink.
About the book
Gids in verwondering is a life’s work in which Benali explores how language, identity, and society are intertwined. He writes about his own development – from his debut Bruiloft aan zee to today – and about how the Netherlands has changed. A plea to understand one another better, written with humour, precision, and compassion.
The book is published by uitgeverij De Meent

“Everything I feel and doubt, and everything I seek to affirm or deny for myself, comes together in this book. What is home? What does it mean to be away? Who am I, who is the other? How can we become better people together?”
