De verhalen van Srebrenica
Srebrenica, 1995. More than eight thousand Bosniaks were killed in the largest genocide in Europe since the Second World War. Thirty years on, survivors, relatives and witnesses share their stories. Listen to their memories. Browse through letters, photographs and books. And take part in the conversation.
This event will be held in Dutch.
The programme
Opening by Councillor Kasmi (Education, Culture and Events).
Book launch: Mijn Liefste
Journalist and documentary maker Mustafa Haziibrahimović presents his new book Mijn Liefste – Letters from Srebrenica, a collection of letters in which bereaved families reflect on love, loss and remembrance. Several letter writers will be present to read their moving letters aloud.
Panel discussion
Mustafa Haziibrahimović will engage in conversation with Chris Keulemans and Arna Mačkić. As a journalist, Chris played a key role in reporting on the war in Bosnia and is the author of Srebrenica & PAX: A History of 25 Years of Solidarity. Arna is an architect and the initiator of the campaign Srebrenica is Dutch History.
Together, they will reflect on the impact of the letters from Srebrenica and share how they each contribute to keeping these stories alive. The conversation also explores a pressing question: to what extent does Srebrenica hold a place in our collective memory?
Workshop: To the Core
In this workshop led by artist Elma Čavčić, you’ll explore questions that lie beneath the surface. What’s going on inside you, perhaps without you realising it? What stories or questions do you carry? What do you want to ask others?By combining art and remembrance, you’ll discover new ways of sharing what matters.
The workshop takes place from 4:50 to 6:00 PM and is limited to 12 participants. Reserve your spot in advance via this form.
Story Market
Browse books and creative works that shed light on the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the war of the 1990s, and the long-lasting impact of Srebrenica.
