Panel discussion and dinner: 'Meer dan Babi Pangang'
An evening program centred around the documentary.
Director Julie Ng and writer David Zee will take part in a conversation at Plein before the film screening at LantarenVenster. Het Zesde Geluk serves Ajam Pangang.
Panel discussion
In this panel discussion, director Julie Ng and writer David Zee, together with moderator Sa Fu Maltha, delve deeper into the content and themes of Meer dan Babi Pangang. They discuss identity, family history, and the (often unspoken) legacies we carry, and how these influence everyday life as well as the stories we see on screen. The conversation also explores how such personal and collective experiences are translated into film: which perspectives are chosen, what is left out, and why. A discussion about representation, recognition, and the layers behind an apparently ordinary story.

About the film
In Meer dan Babi Pangang, Chinese-Dutch documentary filmmaker Julie Ng explores the success and looming decline of the Chinese-Indonesian restaurant through Golden House, her father’s restaurant in Rozenburg.
What begins as a search for the origins of the dish babi pangang develops into a personal and emotional exploration of her cultural and culinary identity as a Chinese-Dutch person. Meer dan Babi Pangang is a tribute to the first generation of Chinese-Dutch people who, through hard work, built an indispensable part of the Dutch streetscape. At the same time, it is an invitation to look beyond the takeaway menu.
