Plan your visit
This is a suitcase is great treasure to me and it has a great history, but I would like others to see it and hear about the story. That is why I am happy to donate it to Fenix.

— Daisy

After the Indonesian National Revolution in 1945, the suitcase of Daisy travels from Indonesia to the Netherlands. Daisy’s ancestors are among the 300,000 Indo-Dutch people who left Indonesia after its independence from the Netherlands. Though the Netherlands is their destination, Daisy's family, like many others, has never set foot there before.

This suitcase, marked with the name of Daisy’s great-uncle Otto Gustav Herman Schulz, begins its journey in 1958. It travelled from Semarang to Singapore, then flies across Karachi, Pakistan, and finally reached Amsterdam aboard a KLM super constellation plane, ‘The Arnhem’. After accompanying Otto across oceans and continents, the suitcase eventually falls into Daisy’s care when Otto’s wife passed away.

Now, this suitcase finds a new home at Fenix, preserving not only the memory of Daisy’s family but also a broader history of migration, resilience, and new beginnings.
