Diaspora Collections
In the Story Depot, Belvédère independently presents its collection, exhibitions and community activities. The Story Depot creates space for the stories, art and heritage of different communities across the city.
The Story Depot was established in June 2022 by Verhalenhuis Belvédère. It is a place where Rotterdam communities collect, manage and present their heritage and art. Through this practice, diaspora collections emerge, while art and stories are developed and presented together with the community.
A Place at Fenix
The Story Depot feels at home at Fenix: here, more than one hundred artists from around the world share their perspectives on migration. The stories from Rotterdam communities gathered in the Story Depot connect with Fenix’s collection.
Curious about the collection and its stories? The Story Depot is free to visit and open from Tuesday to Sunday.
About Verhalenhuis Belvédère
Verhalenhuis Belvédère is the first house for intangible heritage in the Netherlands. It is a welcoming meeting place located in the Katendrecht district of Rotterdam. Belvédère collects and shares the stories of Rotterdam residents, from the first Cape Verdean migrants to Jewish families and Chinese seafarers.
These stories take many forms, from exhibitions to city walks, always through a personal, positive, inspiring and connecting approach. Belvédère aims to bring Rotterdam residents closer together through stories that foster greater understanding and stronger connections in the city's different worlds.
