Srefidensi at Plein
Celebrating 50 years of Suriname’s independence at Fenix
During Srefidensi at Plein, we celebrate Suriname’s independence with a Surinamese edition of Crossing Tables, Brasadag, the theatre performance What the Wind Tells Us, and the launch of the project Angisa – 50 Years.
Srefidensi
On 25 November 1975, Suriname officially became independent from the Netherlands. Srefidensi - Surinamese for independence or self-reliance - marks its 50th anniversary this year.
Srefidensi is a moment to reflect on the past and look ahead to the future. Across the world, the day is celebrated with festivals and events that honour the richness of the land, the diversity of its communities, and the many cultures that shape Suriname today.
At Fenix, Srefidensi at Plein celebrates Surinamese culture and independence through food, music, performances, traditions, and stories that bridge Suriname and the Netherlands.
