Building a collection
After the opening, you will find art, photography, historical objects and personal items on the first floor. Together, the artworks and objects show that migration is timeless and they show how themes such as love, goodbyes, home and happiness are connected to it. They tell stories from yesterday, today and tomorrow. Stories that cross borders.
For instance, in the museum you will soon be able to take a seat in an enormous New York City bus made of fabric, meet a 3.4-metre-tall sculpture of the superhero ‘Space Refugee’ or look at one of the very first refugee passports.
Our collection includes works by artists working internationally such as Do Ho Suh, Shilpa Gupta, Steve McQueen, Red Grooms, Danh Võ, Omar Victor Diop, Rineke Dijkstra and Barthélémy Toguo, as well as emerging talents such as Benjamin Li and Omar Imam. In addition, several artists are being commissioned by FENIX to create new artworks, for example Beya Gille Gacha and Efrat Zehavi.
